Annapolis - Awning Height/Depth

This block of Maryland Avenue is classic T5, but the 2-4 story buildings are not showing in this image. The less urban one-story shops create a nice transition to the residential/lodging T4 street around the corner.
The awning is 4 feet deep and 6 feet above the sidewalk. These are good metrics to create an intimate space in which to view a small shop. Some designers advise 8 feet above the sidewalk to keep kids from grabbing the awning and damaging it, but that would sacrifice intimacy on the small shopfront and narrow sidewalk. You are also more likely to get rained on when it's windy. The red awning to the right is 8 feet above the sidewalk.
