Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Walnut Street at 18th T5-U is a suggested subzone of the T5 Urban Center Zone. Many city neighborhoods, like small towns, have their own main streets (mixed-use corridors) or neighborhood centers that have a similar character, but this area is more urban. In this Local Transect, we've subzoned the photographs for T5-N (Neighborhood) and T5-U (Urban or Uptown) to make a zoning distinction. Of course, Philadelphia also has T6 for even taller mixed-use buildings and more urban thoroughfares. In this image there is a jump in building height across 18th Street, after the 4-story corner building. When coding for this change, many factors come into play. It could all be the same T5-U zone if maximum heights are agreed upon for the future. Or it may be better to make another distinction within T5, or shift to a T6 subzone. For descriptions of the normative Transect Zones from which we calibrate locally, please see the gallery pages for each T-zone.
