Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Main Street, Manayunk T5-N is a suggested subzone of the T5 Urban Center Zone. N is for Neighborhood. Many city neighborhoods, like small towns, have their own main streets (mixed-use corridors) or neighborhood centers that have this general character: 2-3 stories, retail frontages, two-way urban thoroughfare with two narrow travel lanes and two parking lanes, bicycle sharrows, medium-width sidewalks. This common American character is shown in this image. At the same time, a more intense T5 may be found in the city's downtown, which is the case in Center City Philadelphia. In this Local Transect, we've subzoned the photographs for T5-N (Neighborhood) and T5-D (Downtown) to make a zoning distinction. Of course, Philadelphia also has T6 for even taller mixed-use buildings and more urban thoroughfares. For descriptions of the normative Transect Zones from which we calibrate locally, please see the gallery pages for each T-zone.
