This block of Maryland Avenue is classic T5, but the 2-4 story buildings are not showing in this image. The less urban one-story shops create a nice transition to the residential/lodging T4 street around the corner.
The awning is 4 feet deep and 6 feet above the sidewalk. These are good metrics to create an intimate space in which to view a small shop. Some designers advise 8 feet above the sidewalk to keep kids from grabbing the awning and damaging it, but that would sacrifice intimacy on the small shopfront and narrow sidewalk.
